Elvis the epileptic dog blog

The last day Elvis had fits was 1 March 2023. It was only 13 days since the previous ones, so closer than usual. The only thing I could think of to have triggered the seizures is that it was raining, not hard, just a shower, but here in Spain, at this time of the year, it is unusual. It has been suggested that the air pressure can affect epilepsy. Anyway, today was different from the "normal". For one thing he started fitting at 17:30, previously has always been between 10:30 and noon. The first one was not very long and quite mild. The immediate after effects were not as severe as other times because actually he was not bumping into things like he usually is. However, before the first fit (Elvis has cluster fits, so never just one or two) he bumped into the wall, then the fridge and that is the first time he has ever done that before the fitting started. Because it seems to work better we gave him Diazepam as well as the Keppra as soon as possible after the first seizure. We also gave him Onsior because he is usually in pain. So, the second fit came at 20:30, then a few more in the next 3 hours. Around 02:00 we went to bed and he slept peacefully but then woke at 07:15 having another fit. Again this is totally different to the way he usually is.

I intend from now on to post every few days with information about his behaviour.

Today he has had a good day, no crying, not too hungry. I started him on different food 2 days ago. It is supposed to be special for dogs with epilepsy. It is Purina Pro Plan Vet Canine NC . It is quite expensive but if it stops, or limits the fits, it will be worth it.

That´s it for today.

I am really grateful for any comments or experiences you want to share.
